Our passionate team is dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats in Laurens County through providing low-cost vaccination clinics, community resources, and facilitating adoptions of animals of all ages and needs.

Our Staff

Jill Mechling

Shelter Director

Jill had a big dream; she has had the privilege of sharing that dream with the rest of the staff and our wonderful community that never fails to amaze us with their support. Jill has poured a lot of herself into this shelter since the very beginning in 2015, and continues to do so. Jill has also done a lot of TNR on her own to help minimize the stray & feral cat problem in our area.

Aubrey Dixon

Animal Care Manager

Aubrey joined LCHS in —.  Aubrey grew up in animal care and is a blessing to LCHS. Aubrey has a full-time veterinary job and still manages to take wonderful care of our animals here. She takes the time to teach our staff the best ways to manage and care for our animals in every situation. Marcel works hard, earning his treats, anytime we have a new canine intake, helping test their social skills around other dogs. Along with Marcel, Aubrey has dogs, cats, and 3 potbelly pigs. As if she wasn’t busy enough with all of that, she also fosters on a regular basis. She is beyond dedicated to the health and well-being of ALL animals.

Jennifer Bixler

Shelter Manager

Jennifer joined LCHS in August of 2022, after serving 12 years in the SC Army National Guard. She spends her time off with her family, 4 LCHS alumni fur babies, and a few other fun pets including a ferret, hedgehog, and a few tarantulas.  There’s an ongoing joke in her house, because she once made the comment that she didn’t want ANY pets. Now she spends every day with animals and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Michael Avery

Kennel Attendant

Michael started in July 2021, and shows up consistently for the animals, especially the Cats! Michael and his family currently have 2 LCHS Alumni cats at his house. Michael has spent most of his life here in Clinton, SC and takes a lot of pride in helping the animals in the area.

Kairi Cauble

Kennel Attendant

Kairi started in Jan 2025, after graduating from Clinton High School. At home, she has 2 dogs of her own, that she spends most of her time with when she’s not here loving on our animals. You can typically spot her with her headphones, as she focuses on keeping the animals healthy and their areas clean.

Lyn Collins

Kennel Attendant

Lyn started in Jan 2025, not long after moving to the area from Nevada. She has 2 kids and 9 grandkids. Lyn adopted a cat from here after getting moved into her new house, where she ended up with 2 strays that moved into her house at the same time. When she’s not at work, she enjoys being outdoors, in nature. Lyn has always had a deep love for all animals.

Jessica Long

Kennel Attendant + Front Desk

Jessica is our newest member; she started in November 2025. Before Jessica started, she had previously helped with transporting animals for surgery and was already a previous adopter. Jessica has one kid in college, and one that just started driving, and was happy how the timing worked out for her to start working here. We aren’t so sure her husband is as thrilled since she adopted another pet within the first month!

Ny’Kera Hall

Kennel Attendant + Front Desk

Ny’Kera started in August 2022. She is currently attending Piedmont Technical College of Newberry, planning to graduate in May 2026. She previously graduated from Converse University, with a bachelor’s of arts degree and biology in German studies. She is working towards an associate degree in Veterinary Technology. School keeps her pretty busy, but she happily fills in whenever she has time available.
